What you would be doing

- Serve as first responder for workplace incidents; provide immediate first aid/CPR as needed.
- Lead root cause analyses and develop corrective/preventive measures to prevent recurrence.
- Partner with supervisors and craft to identify and control hazards related to excavation, cranes, rigging, confined space, electrical and other heavy civil activities.
- Coach craft personnel and foremen on hazard recognition and safe work practices.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement in safety performance.
- Support project leadership in implementing site-specific safety plans, activity hazard analyses, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Maintain accurate records of safety training, certifications, and compliance activities.
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local safety regulations (OSHA, USACE EM 385-1-1, etc.) and company policies.
- Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections and audits; document findings and ensure timely corrective actions.
- Deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks, and targeted training for employees and subcontractors.

- Trench & Excavation Competent Person
- HAZWOPER (24- or 40-hour)
- 5 years of safety experience in heavy civil construction (bridges, roadways, earthwork, marine, or similar) demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- OSHA 500 – Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for Construction.
- Current First Aid / CPR certification.
- Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
- OSHA 510 – Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry.
- CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
- Rigging/Signal Person Qualification
- Proven ability to interpret and apply OSHA regulations and industry best practices.
- This is a field position that requires frequent walking around the project, climbing up to 10 flights of steps, squatting/bending, working in the heat/cold, and carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Proactive hazard recognition and problem-solving.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
- Clear, confident communication and training delivery.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage employees at all levels.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Safety or related field.
