As an NDT/NDE Technician on S&ME's Metals team in Raleigh, North Carolina, you will engage in hands‑on fieldwork that builds critical skills while ensuring the safety and structural integrity of community‑shaping projects.
You will visually inspect structural steel, including bolted and welded connections, and perform non‑destructive testing such as ultrasonic (UT) and magnetic particle (MT) inspections. The role also involves climbing structures over 200 feet, maintaining and calibrating testing equipment, managing multiple project testing assignments, and creating detailed reports, often requiring 50+ hours per week and occasional weekend work.
Candidates must have a high school diploma/GED, at least two years of NDT/NDE metals testing experience or an associate degree in a related field, and be certified or working toward an AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential. Achievement of ASNT Level II certification in at least one method is required, with additional certifications like ICC Building Inspection or Level II UT/PT/MT considered a plus.
The position demands outdoor, hands‑on work in all weather conditions, frequent climbing over 200 feet, lifting 40‑50 lb of equipment, safe handling of tools on active construction sites, and travel that may include overnight stays away from home.
