The Automation Engineer (AE) supports site maintenance by ensuring the performance and efficiency of material handling equipment (MHE) control systems, working with conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, labeling printers, scales, HMIs, control cabinets, and more in a clean, climate‑controlled environment.
The AE collaborates with operations, maintenance, vendors and parts suppliers to implement solutions for complex problems, lead or mentor technicians, and act as the first escalation point for automation issues, coordinating capital projects and communicating impacts to building leadership.
Candidates must have at least three years of experience (or a related degree with one year of experience) in programming and commissioning HMIs, PLCs, VFDs, SCADA systems, and interpreting mechanical/electrical drawings, plus a high school diploma and a positive, problem‑solving attitude.
Preferred qualifications include an associate or bachelor’s degree in electronics or a STEM field, four or more years in electrical or control systems development, leadership or project‑management experience, and extensive work with conveyors and sortation systems.
The role requires physical abilities such as reaching overhead, kneeling, lifting up to 50 lb, and wearing PPE while working in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures and traveling between sites.
