Operating Engineer

Description

We are seeking an Operating Engineer to support the operation, maintenance, and optimization of renewable energy assets and energy-efficient building systems. This role focuses on ensuring the reliable performance of building infrastructure while supporting the integration and operation of solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS) where applicable.

• Assist with commissioning, testing, and performance optimization of new or upgraded systems.
• Operate, monitor, and maintain building mechanical, electrical, and energy systems, ensuring safe and efficient performance.
• Support day-to-day operations of renewable energy assets, including solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS) where installed.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, operating procedures, and applicable codes and regulations.
• Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams for maintenance activities, upgrades, and inspections.
• Monitor system performance using BMS, SCADA, or energy management platforms and respond to alarms or operational issues.
• Support sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives across the building or asset portfolio.
• Maintain accurate operational logs, maintenance records, and reports.
• Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and corrective repairs on building and energy systems.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will bring a strong engineering foundation, hands-on operational experience with building systems, and a proactive approach to safety, performance, and continuous improvement.

• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues in a fast-paced environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Energy, or related discipline) or equivalent technical background.
• Experience working with commercial, industrial, or institutional building systems.
• Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, including power distribution, HVAC, and controls.
• Familiarity with BMS, EMS, or SCADA systems.
• Experience supporting commissioning or performance testing of energy assets.
• Exposure to renewable energy operations, distributed generation, or microgrids.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
• Knowledge of sustainability programs, energy efficiency initiatives, or decarbonization efforts.
• Hands-on experience with solar PV systems and/or battery energy storage systems (BESS).
• Exposure to cutting-edge solar, storage, and energy-efficient building technologies.
