The role involves delivering a range of environmental approvals projects in collaboration with the EMAC team and specialists in ecology, contaminated land, and related disciplines, serving both private and public sector clients across diverse market sectors.
- Be the technical lead for impact assessment and approvals in NSW.
- Produce high‑quality technical reports, impact assessments and management plans for a broad client base.
- Coordinate day‑to‑day management of clients, project teams and specialist sub‑consultants.
- Provide direction to junior planning/approvals staff to deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Lead proposals and develop project budgets.
- Participate in business development activities and grow new approvals clients in NSW.
- Represent Kleinfelder at industry forums and pursue professional membership.
- Comply with WHS requirements and internal/external safety procedures.

As Kleinfelder continues to expand across New South Wales and recently opened a Sydney office, we are seeking an experienced Principal Environmental Consultant to lead approvals and planning projects for our growing Sydney team.
Successful candidates will have extensive experience in technical delivery of environmental impact assessments for sectors such as renewable energy, infrastructure, transport, mining, urban development, education and health, and possess deep knowledge of NSW Planning and Assessment legislation.
- Hold recognised tertiary qualifications in environmental science, management, urban planning or equivalent.
- Minimum 15 years experience in environmental consulting with complex, large‑scale projects.
- Demonstrated client and project management skills across multiple environmental projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, and ability to coordinate multiple project teams.
- Registered Environmental Assessment Practitioner (REAP) accreditation or intention to obtain it.
- Previous leadership experience and interest in team management.
- Willingness to travel and spend short periods away from home when required.
