Specializing in mechanical contracting, HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection services.
Maintain accuracy of project documentation and tracking throughout prefab stages.
The Spool Fabrication Coordinator develops precise spool drawings and fabrication documentation for mechanical piping systems. This role translates engineered designs into fabrication-ready spools, ensuring dimensional accuracy, material compliance, and efficient shop production. The spooler interfaces closely with engineering, BIM teams, and fabrication personnel to support high-quality prefabrication and reliable field installation.
Generate detailed material takeoffs for pipe, fittings, valves, supports, and specialty items.
Validate weld sequences, fitting orientation, tolerances, and specialty component requirements.
Apply deep technical understanding of Revit and Navisworks to develop, validate, and maintain piping models.
Break down piping systems into efficient, fabrication-ready spools.
Implement model updates based on RFIs, design revisions, field changes, and as-built conditions.
Ensure all spools meet applicable ASME, ASTM, and internal QA/QC standards.
Produce accurate piping spool drawings, including isometrics, weld maps, cut lists, and bills of material.
Review weld numbering, material specifications, and dimensional data for accuracy.
Coordinate with welders, fitters, and shop supervisors to resolve fabrication issues or design deviations.
Verify dimensional accuracy and ensure spool buildability to minimize field rework.
Support resolution of design conflicts and field coordination issues.
Interpret P&IDs, layouts, and 3D models to generate complete prefabrication packages.
Experience with MSUITE, EVOLVE, or similar BIM-to-fabrication platforms.
Strong technical knowledge of piping materials, weld symbols, fabrication processes, and installation sequencing.
Problem-solving mindset with a focus on accuracy and buildability.
Knowledge of ASME B31.1/B31.3 piping codes.
Proficiency in interpreting P&IDs, engineered drawings, and construction documentation.
Deep understanding and extensive hands-on experience with Revit and Navisworks for piping modeling and detailing.
Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with engineering, fabrication, and field teams.
Ability to manage multiple spool packages concurrently.
8–10+ years of experience producing mechanical piping prefabrication and spool packages.
Experience in industrial facilities, mechanical contracting, fabrication shops, or process piping environments.
Familiarity with BIM coordination workflows and shop production tracking.
High accuracy and attention to detail in all fabrication deliverables.
