Lead Estimator

Description

• Review specifications, drawings, and all contract documents in their entirety to determine the scope of work and subsequent required estimate content.
• Maintain system of in-house material pricing and labor value estimates used in bidding process, ensuring material pricing on file reflects the latest vendor supplied information, and labor value estimates are periodically updated to incorporate trends seen in previously completed work.
• Responsible for working with the estimating team to meet deadlines.
• Review design options and recommend value engineering alternatives based on cost and quality.
• Maintain organized records of all bids and bid results.
• Prepare formal proposals and participate in presentations to owners when necessary.
• Complete detailed take-offs for projects, accounting for all materials, equipment, labor, and subcontractors. Maintain detailed bid files for each project with all addenda, clarifications, project specific pricing, and other associated bidding documents.
• Complies and promotes company Safety Policy.
• Maintain a flexible attitude and approach towards assignments and successfully operate under ambiguous guidelines.
• Prepare budget pricing for customers' projects, as required.
• Assist management in the formation of bid strategies and techniques, including subsequent implementation to determine projects to bid.
• Analyze and track; hit ratios, productivity rates and pricing metrics
• Attend Pre-Bid meetings, taking detailed and thorough notes relating to meeting discussion, existing conditions, and other bid requirements.

Requirements

• Strong analytical skills with experience evaluating mechanical estimates performed by others.
• Must have excellent teamwork and organizational skills
• Strong negotiation skills
• PC proficiency required – Office 365 or greater
• Experience with software packages including Office 365 or greater, MS Office Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat; Bluebeam, Building Connected, FastEst, AutoCAD, Revit
• The Lead estimator must be capable of efficient interpretation of project drawings, blueprints, and specifications, and must be familiar with basic Mechanical principles, and currently used products. Mastery of basic office software packages, such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Project, is required. Experience with estimating software package is preferred.
• Prompt and responsive with measured urgency
• An Associate Degree in such fields would also be acceptable, provided the applicant has a high level of documented field and\or estimating experience in the HVAC & Plumbing industry.
• Ability to pass MVR check (if applicable) or must have reliable transportation.
• Business development experience with both large and small construction customers including general contractors, construction managers, architectural & engineering firms, and major developers preferred.
• The Lead Estimator must possess a thorough knowledge of the HVAC & Plumbing construction estimating process.
• Ability to maintain focus and remain organized in a changing environment.
• Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
• Ability to travel, as needed, for projects.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• A Bachelor's Degree in a construction or engineering related field is preferred.
• Strong construction management knowledge.
• Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen, speak and write effectively
• Ability to successfully complete a full background screening and drug screening.
