Process Project Engineer

Description

The Outsourced Technical Services (OTS) Department at PM Group partners with global leaders across multiple industries to source the right talent for current and future business needs. Working on a client site in Cork, the Process Project Engineer will lead the design of Strategic Capital Programs that support capacity growth and business continuity planning. The role involves senior‑level communication and coordination with external agencies to ensure compliance with planning laws and regulations.

In this position you will drive end‑to‑end delivery of capital projects, supervising design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover while applying engineering, regulatory and environmental best practices. You will also lead multidisciplinary teams, manage health and safety compliance, and maintain project schedules and budgets throughout the lifecycle.

• Identify project opportunities and develop scope and business case.
• Manage project execution, overseeing contractors and vendors from a health and safety perspective.
• Lead capital projects using engineering, regulatory and environmental standards.
• Oversee design, procurement, budgeting, installation, testing, FAT, validation, commissioning and handover of new process equipment and safety upgrades.
• Participate in HAZOP studies.
• Create change control documents for site works and changes.
• Conduct project kickoff meetings with Process, electrical, automation and civil stakeholders.
• Run constructability review meetings covering scaffolding, MEWP, hot works, crane lifts, etc.
• Approve project schedules and monitor critical path timelines throughout the project lifecycle.
• Manage snag lists, weld logs, test packs, test inspection plans, redline drawings and P&ID updates.
• Approve technical submittals such as material datasheets, tank drawings and isometrics.
• Review and approve method statements prior to issuing permits for cold works, hot works, work at height, confined space, red tag and LOTO.
• Lead weekly progress and safety review meetings.
• Lead engineering teams (staff and contract) across local and global sites to deliver design on strategic capital projects.
• Develop and deliver new technology and innovative solutions to future‑proof and modernise the client’s business in line with Industry 4.0.
• Leverage best practices from client divisions and other industries to achieve world‑class plant and equipment design performance.
• Provide design solutions for technically complex challenges.
• Offer technical guidance during project design, implementation, commissioning and process qualification.
• Apply engineering first principles, scientific methods and processing systems knowledge to create equipment solutions that generate new business opportunities and address existing needs.
• Develop sustainable engineering practices and programmes to ensure sustainability in plant design and operation.

Requirements

The ideal candidate holds a degree in Chemical, Process, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and brings at least ten years of process‑industry engineering experience, including operations or maintenance exposure and extensive capital project management. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required to work effectively at all levels of an international organization. Proven expertise in process plant standards, project concept development, business case approval, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, validation, and HSE management is essential.

• Degree in Chemical, Process, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 10+ years of process industry engineering experience with operations/maintenance exposure and extensive capital project management.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work at all organizational levels internationally.
• Expertise in process plant technical standards.
• Experience in project concept development and business case/capital approval.
• Proven ability in design, procurement and installation of process equipment.
• Knowledge of construction, commissioning and validation phases.
• Competence in environmental, health and safety management.
• Experience managing contractors and construction teams.
