We are hiring a Senior Cable System Design Engineer for our Transmission & Distribution team. The role involves delivering cable system projects across multiple voltage levels for transmission system operators, distribution network operators and private developers, covering the full project lifecycle from feasibility and concept to detailed design, installation supervision and commissioning.

Deliver full‑lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility studies through detailed design, installation support and commissioning.
Review complex HVAC and HVDC cable system designs, including route development, burial risk assessments, and thermal, electromagnetic and mechanical calculations.
Perform cable rating and system studies such as ampacity, short‑circuit forces, thermal stability and EMI analysis.
Conduct cable pulling, jointing, cleating and installation feasibility studies.
Coordinate with civil, structural, substation and OHL teams to provide integrated solutions.
Carry out third‑party inspections and support FAT/SAT, installation and commissioning activities.
Interface with manufacturers, suppliers and contractors to verify compliance with IEC, CIGRÉ, National Grid TPs and other international standards.
Participate in client meetings, technical workshops, HAZID/HAZOPs and multidisciplinary coordination.

Proven experience in cable system design engineering for HV/EHV transmission and distribution, with FEED experience.
Background in regulated, quality‑assured environments, preferably National Grid.
Knowledge of on‑shore cable routing, pulling and mechanical forces, burial risk assessments, electromagnetic, thermal and stability analysis, cleating and short‑circuit restraint.
Experience in quality, inspection & test (QIT) of cables and related systems.
Familiarity with IEC, CIGRÉ and NG‑TP standards.
Proficiency with CYMCAP, WinCable, AutoCAD, Revit, GIS and mechanical simulation tools.
Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or related discipline (desirable).
NG Certified – CDAE (Cable Design and Engineering) (desirable).
Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership (desirable).
