The Calgary office of Smith + Andersen is seeking an Electrical Designer. You’re a trained engineer with a passion for electrical building services design. You never shy away from a load calculation, and have the skills to produce drawings in Autodesk Revit. You enjoy taking on new challenges, but you’re most excited when you can buckle down and efficiently get work done. You’re not afraid to speak up and ask tough questions, and you pride yourself on your friendly yet direct communication skills. That’s why, whether you’re solving problems on your own or as part of a team, you excel. You don’t like being micro-managed, and are looking for an opportunity to work directly with senior leadership – to step up, learn more, and go further in your career.
- 1-3 years of direct industry experience in the field of electrical building services preferred.
- Working knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks Manage, and Dynamo software.
- Highly innovative and motivated with an attention to detail.
- Diploma/Degree from an electrical building services/engineering program.
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment driven by project deadlines.
- Knowledge of all Microsoft Office suites, specifically Word and Excel.
- Knowledge and experience working with Autodesk Revit 2017 or newer is required, with exposure to electrical layouts and systems.
- Familiarity with lighting calculations and able to perform such calculations.
- Familiar with structural, architectural, and mechanical models to appreciate space limitations and interferences.
- A C.E.T. with equivalent experience and abilities will be considered.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate effectively with both internal and external clients.
- Familiarity with systems such as electrical distribution, fire alarm, lighting, security, communication and/or audio-visual systems are preferred assets.
- Able to work independently, as well as contribute to the team.
