The Role

Overview

Inspect and verify MEP systems on LAWA construction projects for code and spec compliance.

Tasks

-Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and project specifications, review and interpret construction documents including blueprints and shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders. -May be required to work various shifts, including day, swing, and night. -Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies as needed. -Verify contractor compliance with local and national electrical codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70, 70E, 72), mechanical and plumbing codes, and LAWA-specific standards. -Inspects the construction of a wide variety of airport improvements and utilities projects to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, contracts, permits, environmental documents, agreements for work, and may provide construction inspection support. -Involvement in complex projects that require coordination with multiple stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and city officials. -Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values. -Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantities -Commissioning and balancing reports

What You Bring

-A strong understanding of diverse code requirements. -Current ICC Certification as a Commercial Mechanical -Knowledge of Project Management Information Software used for inspection/document control (i.e., Microsoft Office, Outlook, Xcel, Word, PM Web, Adobe Pro, Bluebeam, etc.). -Fire life safety systems including smoke/heat detectors and FM-200 suppression systems -Successfully hired Candidates must provide Proof of Cal-OSHA 30 hr. training within the last 4 years, prior to assignment. -Door card readers, security cameras, and public address (P.A.) systems -HVAC systems (air handlers, chillers, boilers, ductwork) -High school diploma (equivalent) -Proof of Cal-OSHA 30 hr. training within the last 4 years -Candidates must possess a current ICC certification as Commercial Mechanical Inspector to apply. -Computer proficiency to review and utilize electronic equipment for contract documents efficiently, including change orders, submittals, RFIs, and other inspection documents, with minimal supervision. -Mechanical inspection staff shall have 3 years or more experience performing mechanical inspections for Building Construction. -Must be able to work any assigned shift - day, swing, or night - as required to meet the contractor's construction schedule. -Mechanical ventilation and exhaust -Experience at the journey-level as an electrician, with a focus on the installation and repair of electrical systems in public works, institutional, commercial, or industrial settings. -Fall protection and harness training. -Training & knowledge of NFPA -70, 70E, & 72 is preferred. -Availability to work overtime as required to meet project deadlines and ensure timely completion of tasks is preferred. -Mechanical inspection staff possess a thorough knowledge of the materials and methods used in the installation of plumbing, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration installations. -Shall be open to work modified schedules, including nights and weekends, as dictated by the contractors' work activities and accelerated project schedules. -Preferred candidates are those with additional ICC certifications as Electrical and Plumbing Inspector. -Additional Current ICC certifications as Electrical and Plumbing Inspector -Experience overseeing and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations on significant construction projects. -Successfully hired candidates must have LAWA SIDA badge prior to official start. -Excellent communication and time management skills. -Demonstrates strong proficiency in preparing comprehensive daily inspection reports that clearly document the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all observed construction activities, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accountability in tracking progress and identifying issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns in a timely manner. -Expertise in identifying and addressing deficiencies, ensuring that all aspects of construction meet the required standards. -Venting, fire sprinklers, and gas piping -Fire and life safety integration (e.g. smoke dampers) -Confined Space Entry Training -Electrical shutdowns, lockout/tagout procedures, and breaker coordination -Plumbing experience (journeyman/master level) with progression into inspection. -Must be open to learning the prescriptive items required by the agency. -NFPA 70E standards training within the last 3 years is preferred. -Experience inspecting mechanical systems of large-scale commercial, industrial or public buildings.
