The role includes supervising and conducting on‑site demilitarization of munitions of explosive concern, preparing explosives storage plans, drafting response action reports and standard operating procedures, assisting with risk and hazard analyses, and leading daily safety briefings. The technician also inspects, certifies, and verifies materials potentially presenting an explosive hazard for transfer or release in accordance with DoD policies.

The UXO Technician III identifies and classifies unexploded ordnance (UXO) and discarded military munitions (DMM) and their fuses, excavates and moves munitions that are acceptable for movement. This position must be capable of performing the duties of UXO Sweep Personnel, UXO Technician I, and UXO Technician II.
Candidates must hold a high school diploma and have at least eight years of military EOD or commercial UXO experience, completed formal UXO training or relevant EOD courses, and, for divers, both basic and underwater Naval School EOD training (or foreign equivalent). Required abilities include problem sensitivity, deductive reasoning, physical stamina, equipment operation, active listening, organization, planning, and coordination of team activities.
- Minimum: High School diploma plus 8 years of military EOD or commercial UXO experience.
- Graduate of formal UXO training or EOD assistant courses; or graduate of U.S., Canadian, British, German, or Australian military EOD schools.
- Divers must have completed basic and underwater NAVSCOLEOD training (or foreign equivalent).
- Demonstrated problem sensitivity to anticipate issues.
- Ability to apply deductive reasoning to solve problems.
- Physical capability for demanding activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, and material handling.
- Proficiency in operating detection and geophysical sensing equipment.
- Strong active listening and communication skills.
- Effective organization, planning, and prioritization of work.
- Ability to coordinate and lead team activities.
