The Practice Leader for the Natural Resources North Carolina Practice provides day‑to‑day leadership, financial management, marketing, coordination, collaboration, team building, mentoring, and staff development. Reporting to the Regional Practice Leader, this self‑motivated individual is responsible for staff development, project execution, procurement of work, assisting sales activities, preparing technical and fee proposals, participating in field work, and performing QA/QC reviews.
- Provide leadership and guidance to PMs, Sr. PMs, and practice staff
- Support professional growth of PMs, Sr. PMs, and staff; oversee projects
- Manage practice business to achieve budgeted margins, project health, and cash flow
- Collaborate with other Practice Leaders to share best practices
- Hire, manage, and assign work for all staff
- Track and coordinate practice performance
- Provide project and client leads to grow other practices
- Serve as project manager on select projects
- Ensure high quality on all practice projects
- Lead recruiting and retention efforts to attract top talent
- Develop and deliver annual performance appraisals for staff
- Mentor staff and lead training and development
- Negotiate contract terms, scopes, and fees with clients and subconsultants
- Develop project schedules from inception to completion
- Create monthly progress reports and invoices
- Prepare monthly staff utilization plans
- Operate within budget parameters and authorize unbilled work
- Provide monthly cash management comments to Finance and PMO
- Supply weekly new project budget data to analysts
- Drive business development by maximizing existing and new client opportunities
- Lead project opportunity evaluation, consultant selection, and qualification statements
- Identify new business opportunities and coordinate proposal teams
- Develop and maintain customer relationships through performance feedback and needs assessment
- Contribute to annual business development plan to meet sales targets
- Review annual market research for business planning
- Provide market trends for strategic planning
- Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
- Ensure practice meets Quality Management System requirements
- Participate in annual leadership meetings and regional forums
- Represent KCI in technical, industry, and community organizations
- Develop project‑specific safety plans and ensure regulatory compliance
- Deliver projects on time, within budget, and with high quality
- Monitor effective use of equipment and personnel

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent experience) with at least 7 years of professional experience in natural resource management, ecological restoration, or mitigation banking. Candidates must demonstrate progressive project and organizational management experience, strong leadership, communication, budgeting, business development, problem‑solving, adaptability, and proficiency with relevant software and regulatory knowledge. Completion of KCI PM and Contract Training within six months of start date is required; a professional license or certification is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field and minimum 7 years’ relevant experience (or 11 years equivalent)
- Progressive project and organizational management experience
- Proven project management experience within technical practice
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams of technical practitioners
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Business development experience focusing on client relationships and growth
- Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities
- Adaptability and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
- Proficiency with relevant software and tools
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards
- Complete KCI PM Training and Contract Training within six months of start date
- Professional license or certification in the field of expertise (preferred)
