Description

As a Works Delivery Manager you will manage multiple Network Rail and rail‑related infrastructure contracts, both planned and reactive, reporting to CML’s Senior Project Manager in Sheffield and working on projects across the North West and Central Region. The role requires an excellent understanding of design drawings, commercial awareness of cost monitoring and cost‑value reconciliation, and daily liaison with the client to maintain and develop trusted relationships.

• Undertake pre‑site scoping visits to capture work requirements and plan execution
• Liaise with commercial team to review estimates, final accounts and report daily civils performance
• Manage site teams to ensure compliance with returns, commercial reporting, quality and safety, and drive efficiencies
• Prepare and implement site‑specific health, safety, quality and environmental management plans
• Produce site documentation and contract plans that meet client specifications
• Ensure robust programme management, securing third‑party access consents, possession submissions and traffic management requests
• Identify training needs and development potential for CML personnel
• Conduct site audits and engage with allocated teams
• Lead professional safety culture and promote positive behavioural change

Requirements

Candidates should have at least five years’ experience in reactive works delivery and civil engineering construction, ideally within a railway environment, and an appreciation of the Network Rail design process. Demonstrated line‑management, commercial (NEC4 preferred) and programme‑management experience are essential, together with relevant railway safety training (PTS required, COSS/IWA desirable) and ongoing professional development such as SMSTS, MAPM, NVQ 6/7, NEBOSH or Temporary Works Co‑ordinator.

• Minimum 5 years experience in reactive works delivery within a fast‑paced environment
• Minimum 5 years civil engineering construction experience, preferably railway
• Knowledge of Network Rail design process
• Proven line‑management experience
• Demonstrated commercial experience; NEC4 contract knowledge desirable
• Demonstrated programme management experience
• Qualified by experience; railway safety training – PTS essential, COSS/IWA desirable
• Ongoing professional development such as SMSTS, MAPM, NVQ 6/7, NEBOSH, Temporary Works Co‑ordinator
