Design and make software for architecture, engineering, construction, and entertainment industries.
Autodesk seeks a Principal Data Engineer to lead the design and development of data architecture and pipelines. The role shapes the data ecosystem, partnering with analysts, data scientists, AI/ML engineers, and product teams to deliver scalable solutions for insights and decision‑making. It offers an opportunity to solve complex problems, champion best practices, and mentor high‑performing teams.
The engineer will lead and mentor a team building scalable pipelines on AWS, Snowflake, and Azure, and will architect end‑to‑end solutions for both batch and real‑time data flows, ensuring performance, resilience, and cost efficiency. They will define a long‑term data engineering vision aligned with Autodesk’s platform strategy and analytics roadmap, and collaborate across functions to translate business needs into reliable data solutions.
Key responsibilities include establishing standards for data quality, governance, observability, and operational excellence; designing optimized data models, ELT/ETL processes, and architectures to support analytics, BI, and machine‑learning workloads; and applying CI/CD best practices, testing frameworks, and modern integration tools such as Fivetran, Nexla, and Airflow. Additionally, the role leverages AI‑driven methods for anomaly detection, pipeline optimization, and automation while staying current with emerging data‑engineering trends.
Candidates need 10+ years of data engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, and a proven track record delivering large‑scale enterprise data pipelines. Required expertise includes cloud platforms (AWS; Azure a strong plus), SQL, Python, modern data modeling, batch and streaming frameworks (Spark, Kafka, Kinesis, Hadoop), and familiarity with data lakehouse, data mesh, and hybrid/multi‑cloud strategies. Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills are essential.
