The company is hiring Construction Inspectors to support CTDOT highway and bridge projects, facilities, rail and transit infrastructure, and municipal capital projects. This field‑based role monitors contractor work, verifies compliance with contract documents, applicable codes, safety and quality standards, and documents progress while assisting the Resident Engineer with field coordination.
Inspectors will verify construction work for compliance with plans, specifications, CTDOT standards, and environmental and safety requirements, and will identify non‑conforming work and coordinate corrective actions. They will prepare daily inspection reports, photographs, and progress documentation, measure and verify material quantities, and witness required testing. Coordination duties include working with the Resident Engineer, contractors, CTDOT representatives, rail owners, municipalities, and attending coordination meetings, while also monitoring jobsite safety and enforcing PPE and OSHA protocols.
The position requires field inspection experience on transportation, building, rail, or civil construction projects, the ability to interpret plans, specifications, codes, and contracts, and familiarity with CTDOT Form 819, the Construction Manual, and digital documentation systems such as AASHTOWare, COMPASS, ProjectWise, and SharePoint. Candidates must be able to perform accurate field measurements, calculate quantities, and possess strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering Technology, or a related field, or a High School Diploma with NICET Level I certification; preferred candidates hold NICET Level II or higher, ACI/NETTCP/ATSSA certifications, OSHA 10‑ or 30‑hour training, or a relevant trade license, and have 1‑2 years of experience on CTDOT projects. Physical demands involve working in active construction environments with uneven terrain, heights, excavations, and varied weather, and may require nights, weekends, or off‑hours for traffic shifts, building shutdowns, or rail outages.
