Administer and process encroachment permits, ensuring compliance and customer service.
Perform detailed pre-screening and final review of submittals; route residential and commercial plans for appropriate departmental review.
Process and track plans in digital permitting systems; set up revisions, manage deferred submittals, and resolve permit system issues.
Support departmental goals and assist other team members during peak demand or urgent needs.
Process standard and complex encroachment permits (e.g., monitoring wells, paving, HPD cameras, kiosks, subdivision markers).
Respond to inquiries regarding permit status, required documentation, and general procedures via phone, email, in person, and through Q-Flow.
Receive, review, and evaluate permit applications and construction plans for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with building codes and regulatory requirements.
Ensure timely and professional communication with applicants, internal teams, and external agencies to resolve issues and deliver excellent service.
Create and maintain administrative records, reports, and performance metrics.
Calculate and assess various permit and plan fees accurately.

Minimum 3 years of experience as a Permit Technician or related administration / customer service position.
Associate's degree in a related field may substitute for 2 years of required experience.
Strong analytical and organizational skills; able to manage multiple priorities and tasks efficiently.
Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
Knowledge of Construction terminology and general code requirements.
Ability to interpret and apply permit codes, regulations, and departmental procedures
Experience with complex permit processing, encroachment permits, and customer-facing roles strongly preferred.
Proficiency in iPermits and ILMS (Integrated Land Management System)
High School Diploma or GED required.
Ability to lead, mentor, and support a team in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency with office software (Word, Excel, Outlook) and permitting platforms.
