During the year you will work across the supply chain: issuing RFQs, reviewing engineering drawings, analysing data for sourcing decisions, supporting buyers with supplier audits and visits, and presenting improvement ideas. Interaction with commercial, finance, engineering, quality and operations teams will give a comprehensive view of the business.

Caterpillar offers a 12‑month Industrial Placement Scheme in Procurement at its Birchwood, UK site, with a salary of £26,000 plus share scheme, pension and 25 days of annual leave. The placement begins in July 2026 and is open to students in their penultimate year of study, unless they are enrolled in an integrated master's programme.
Placements provide mentorship from managers or technical experts, exposure to worldwide facilities and the chance to work on multiple diverse projects. Students will develop technical and analytical skills, gain insight into how university learning translates to real‑world problems, and may be fast‑tracked to the graduate development scheme with additional incentives.
