Under general supervision, the employee performs routine loading and unloading of materials within the yard or work site and assembles load packages into trucks for delivery to customer job sites.
The role includes loading and unloading materials onto pallets, trucks, or customer vehicles, installing strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting; building balanced load packages based on customer orders and vehicle capacity; following work orders or oral instructions to locate and move materials; and transporting items using hand trucks, electric dollies, forklifts or other devices.
The employee opens containers with hand tools, attaches identifying tags or labels, and adheres to all safety procedures, attending periodic safety meetings and recommending improvements as needed. Other duties may be assigned.
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED, at least three months of relevant experience, and a valid forklift operator certification.
Required competencies include knowledge of company products for weight and handling considerations, ability to read and write work orders, manual dexterity, use of simple hand tools, understanding of safety procedures while operating a forklift, and the ability to count items and verify them against prepared lists.
Work is performed in a production or yard environment with temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, equipment noise and dust. Employees must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lb frequently and up to 80 lb occasionally, and may need to climb, push, kneel or perform similar physical tasks.
