Test Engineer duties include medium and high voltage apparatus testing and functional verification of control, protection, and alarm circuits. Engineers must operate Doble, Fluke, and other test equipment, interpret results, read technical documentation, and be familiar with IEEE standards, ANSI/IEEE device function numbers, and the latest NETA Acceptance and Maintenance Testing Specifications.
Senior Test Engineers also set and test protective relays while providing functional verification of control, protection, and alarm circuits. They must understand substation physical drawings, equipment wiring diagrams, and control schematics, and be able to explain substation protection philosophy, including feeder, breaker failure, bus, transformer, capacitor bank, and distance protection concepts and settings.
Minimum requirements are a BSEE, BSME or BSEEET degree with 6‑10 years of experience for senior‑level candidates, NICET Level III certification, strong safety practices, organizational ability, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidates must have working knowledge of test equipment, a valid driver’s license insurable for company vehicles, and must pass client‑mandated drug and background checks. Sponsorship for an employment visa is not permitted now or in the future.
