Outside Plant Engineer

Description

• Engineer and design OSP copper and fiber networks, preparing drawings, loss calculations, and serving area designs.
• Conduct field measurements of poles, conduits, and buried facilities to support design.
• Develop and monitor project budgets, track actual costs, and perform quality inspections.
• Prepare, organize, and submit permit packages to municipal, county, state, DNR, railroad, and pipeline agencies.
• Ensure designs comply with permitting regulations and engineering standards.
• Coordinate with municipal officials and utility companies to manage road projects, relocations, and avoid delays.
• Update FROGS (CAD), Varasset, and SiteTracker systems with project data.
• Work with SSP contractors to ensure timely, budget‑conscious project completion and support make‑ready work.
• Perform site surveys, assist with PUC complaint investigations, and create capital projects for cell towers or plant repairs.
• Maintain engineering records, draft correspondence, and process departmental documentation.

Requirements

The OSP Engineer role focuses on designing, planning, and implementing outside plant projects for copper and fiber networks. The position requires strong engineering, permitting, and construction coordination skills, as well as the ability to manage budgets and ensure compliance with company and industry standards.

• Possess 3–5+ years of hands‑on copper and fiber optic network engineering experience.
• Minimum 5 years in network engineering or OSP work, including permitting and fiber record management.
• Demonstrate strong project management, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
• Proficient with Frontier tools such as FROGS, Varasset, and SiteTracker.
• Exhibit excellent communication with municipal officials, utilities, contractors, and cross‑functional teams.
• Reside within 1 hour of Findlay, OH, and willing to travel locally for fieldwork and meetings.
