What you would be doing

Inspect construction sites during different phases (e.g. site grading, utilities installation, stormwater control measures, paving, final site clean-up) to ensure they conform to approved site plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
Maintain records of inspections, site observations, corrective actions, and as‐built documentation.
Review site plan elements (e.g. drainage, stormwater detention/retention, stormwater outlets, buffers, wetlands, stream buffers) on-site to ensure correct grading, slopes, as-built conditions match plans.
Observe and document site conditions, take measurements, record deviations or nonconformities; issue correction notices or stop work orders as needed.
Coordinate with permit holders (contractors, engineers, developers), other city staff, and regulatory agencies to resolve site compliance issues.
Enforce erosion, sedimentation, and runoff controls; verify proper installation, maintenance, and effectiveness of Best Management Practices (BMPs) during and after construction.
Provide feedback and field input for plan reviews, permitting, and changes in design, when site conditions necessitate.
Assist in ensuring the city’s compliance with stormwater regulations (e.g. MS4 permit requirements) and any state/federal environmental statutes regarding land disturbance.
Some offices work (report writing, coordination) required.
Respond to citizen complaints or concerns related to site development (erosion, runoff, sediment, etc.).
Field work in all weather conditions; visits active construction sites; may involve walking on uneven terrain, mud, slopes, etc.
Work safely on construction sites; ensure the site inspector follows all safety protocols.

Strong observation, documentation, and communication skills; able to write inspection reports.
Certifications may be required or desired, such as: Georgia Soil & Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) erosion & sediment control inspector certification, or related as per City requirements.
Knowledge of grading, drainage, stormwater management principles; familiarity with BMPs, site plan reading.
Valid driver’s license.
Some experience in land development, site inspection, erosion/sediment control, construction or civil works.
High school diploma or equivalent; degree/technical training in civil engineering, environmental science, construction management, or related field preferred.
