Description

The Patient Access Representative builds trust and comfort for patients and families while ensuring timely, accurate registration for inpatient, emergency, and outpatient services. This role collaborates with physicians and care departments to streamline patient flow and personalize the experience.

• Accurately obtain, input, scan, and distribute patient registration information for inpatient, emergency, and outpatient services.
• Pre‑register all scheduled patients and achieve a 100 % pre‑registration rate.
• Verify patient information upon arrival and correct records as needed.
• Respond promptly to registration requests received by phone, fax, or in person to ensure timely access to care.
• Verify eligibility and obtain required authorizations for in‑patients, DSU patients, and out‑patients with specific insurances.
• Clearly explain required forms, obtain signatures, and provide excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and physicians.
• Retrieve signatures from patients in rooms for direct admits or missing forms.
• Maintain department logs, reports, and records in accordance with quality‑assurance goals.
• Attend monthly department meetings, in‑service training, and other required sessions for professional growth.
• Uphold SJRMC Service Standards: Safety, Courtesy, Effectiveness, and Stewardship in daily work.

Requirements

Successful candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, strong keyboard and computer skills, and the ability to communicate clearly in English. Flexibility, excellent customer service, and the capacity to work with diverse teams and stressed patients are also essential.

The position requires physical stamina to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods, as well as the ability to handle frequent exposure to ill patients and stressful situations while maintaining normal vision and hearing acuity.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Keyboard proficiency of at least 35 wpm with high accuracy.
• Experience with computer and office equipment (copy machines, scanners, fax).
• Prior data‑entry experience with accurate information entry.
• Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to prioritize multiple demands and handle interruptions.
• Skill in obtaining personal and financial information from stressed patients.
• Effective teamwork with diverse personalities and cultures.
• Excellent customer‑service orientation.
• Willingness to collect co‑payments and deposits as appropriate.
• Post‑secondary education.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Familiarity with third‑party payers, billing requirements, and reimbursement methods.
• Experience in patient registration or related healthcare field.
• Advanced keyboard and computer skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively in Navajo or Spanish.
• Ability to walk, sit, and stand for long periods.
• Tolerance for frequent exposure to ill patients and stressful situations.
• Normal vision and hearing acuity.
