Arbor- Tree Inventory & Data Mapping

Description

The Arborist Inventory Specialist collects, maintains, and analyzes data on urban and rural tree populations to support sustainable forestry, landscape planning, and public safety. This role blends technical arboricultural knowledge with GIS and data‑management expertise to steward tree assets effectively.

• Identify tree species onsite and record species, size, condition, and location using the inventory app.
• Conduct GPS/GIS-enabled tree inventories documenting health, size, location, and maintenance needs.
• Communicate effectively with site supervisors, crew leaders, and office staff.
• Assess tree health and risk factors, recommending treatment or removal as needed.
• Maintain and update digital tree inventory databases.
• Prepare maps, reports, and presentations for internal and community use.
• Support development of tree management and planting plans.
• Ensure compliance with municipal tree ordinances and environmental regulations.
• Assist with data collection for carbon sequestration, canopy coverage, and biodiversity.
• Apply strong knowledge of tree biology, pest/disease identification, and pruning standards.
• Read and interpret maps, aerial imagery, and landscape plans.
• Prioritize tasks, multitask, and maintain attention to detail.
• Solve problems and follow GIS data and maps.

Requirements

The position requires the ability to walk long distances, carry equipment, and navigate uneven terrain, with occasional lifting, pushing, and standing for prolonged periods. Fieldwork is combined with office and data‑entry tasks, and candidates must have adequate hearing, speaking, and vision to perform essential functions. Cognitive reasoning, problem‑solving ability, and the capacity to prioritize tasks are also essential.

• Recognize tree diseases and trim requirements.
• Use GPS inventory on iPad field app; demonstrate tech savviness.
• Work accurately and independently in a fast‑paced environment.
• Exhibit excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Possess a current California driver’s license with a clean record.
• Prior tree‑related experience, bilingual ability, and Arbor Note experience are a plus.

Benefits

The role is full‑time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work as needed. Compensation is hourly.
