The intern will review technical documents such as work packages, task orders, procedures, and facility modifications to ensure nuclear safety considerations are incorporated. They will also take part in safety critiques, investigations, hazards identification, and analyses as needed.
Additional duties include performing safety walkdowns of fissile material operations, reviewing operational procedures for compliance, and assisting with the preparation and peer review of safety calculations and screening documents.
Candidates must be enrolled in an ABET-accredited mechanical, chemical, or nuclear engineering program and have completed at least 24 credit hours by Summer 2026. US citizenship and the ability to obtain a DOE “L” security clearance are required.
Preferred skills include strong written and verbal communication, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and familiarity with nuclear safety software such as MCNP, SCALE, HotSpot, or MicroShield.
