This role is accountable for subject‑matter innovation, regulatory compliance across local, state, and federal agencies, and delivering strategic direction for current and future planning challenges within a large, multi‑faceted organization.
In this capacity you will provide proactive, strategic process and people leadership for the planning discipline, overseeing design, implementation, and administration of projects and programs. You will lead the most complex, large‑scale transportation planning initiatives, setting clear expectations, managing budgets, tracking hours and expenses, and supervising subcontractors, contract work, and employees to achieve performance and profitability goals.
You will drive compliance and accountability with all relevant federal, state, and local planning practices, approval processes, zoning laws, and regulatory requirements while overseeing the discipline’s internal vision and mission to align with business strategy. Responsibilities include leading meetings and educational opportunities, acting as a liaison to agencies, clients, subcontractors, and community groups, shaping long‑term strategy and pipeline development, and directing contract negotiations, proposals, and performance metrics. Additionally, you will interpret complex data to guide regulatory conclusions, provide leadership to multidisciplinary teams, develop high‑level client relationships, stay current on planning practices, collaborate across disciplines, and uphold ethical decision‑making in line with WSP’s Code of Conduct.
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in transportation, urban, or environmental planning (or equivalent experience) and brings at least 15 years of transportation planning experience in a corporate environment. Strong knowledge of planning practices, approval processes, zoning, permitting, and regulatory frameworks is essential, along with a proven ability to manage large‑scale programs and documents. Excellent leadership, interpersonal communication, strategic thinking, and analytical skills are required, as is the ability to influence senior management, clients, and staff without formal authority.
Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree and relevant professional licensure or certification.
