• Translate Business Unit and market segment strategies into clear goals and measurable outcomes.
• Provide focused oversight to one or two key strategic projects as needed.
• Lead market-specific innovation, technology adoption, and continuous improvement efforts.
• Mentor Project Executives on business acquisition, operational delivery, and leadership development.
• Build trusted relationships with clients, architects, and trade partners.
• Partner with People Operations to create hiring and succession plans for the Commercial market segment.
• Champion ongoing learning, development, and growth opportunities for emerging leaders.
• Lead Commercial Business Unit meetings and contribute to leadership forums.
• Oversee all pursuit and acquisition efforts within the Commercial market.
• Ensure alignment with XL’s Business Acquisition Process (BAP) and strategic pursuit framework.
• Represent XL in professional associations, industry events, and community outreach efforts.
• Anticipate and position XL for emerging market trends and new client opportunities.
• Collaborate across market segments to optimize resource allocation and workforce planning.
• Uphold compliance with companywide operational processes and safety standards.
• Ensure financial performance, forecasting accuracy, and risk mitigation across all commercial projects.
• Support direct reports in executing business plans and strategic initiatives.
• Serve as the primary leader for the Commercial Market Segment, driving vision, execution, and alignment across project teams.
• Implement strategic initiatives that advance XL’s Focus and Strategic Anchors.
• Serve as XL Construction’s primary representative for the Commercial segment across the Bay Area and Northern California markets.
• Assist teams in resolving project challenges and implementing recovery or optimization plans.
• Partner with Project Executives and General Superintendents to ensure market growth, profitability, and operational performance.
• Participate in companywide initiatives and strategic planning groups.
• Develop pursuit strategies and relationship plans with key clients and partners.

Requirements

• Skilled in risk management, client engagement, and stakeholder alignment.
• Experience managing ground-up, tenant improvement, and renovation projects across multiple market sectors.
• Demonstrated P&L accountability and operational success.
• Minimum 15 years of experience in commercial construction, including leadership of major projects or programs.
• Active involvement in professional and industry associations.
• Proven success leading and mentoring high-performing teams.
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
• Deep understanding of preconstruction, construction operations, and delivery methods (GMP, CMAR, Design-Build, IPD).
• Strong business acumen and ability to develop and execute strategic plans.
• Recognized reputation within the Bay Area construction community.
• At least 3 years in a Project Executive or higher-level leadership role.
