Overview

Oversee and perform complex surveys for construction projects, managing crews and ensuring safety.

Tasks

-Makes vertical control surveys for aerial surveys; determines elevations for various surfaces. -Establishes control for alignment and benchmarks; makes required line and elevation ties to existing centerlines and U.S.G.S. benchmarks. -Plots field data using survey computer programs, constructs maps, and prepares reports. -All employees, current and former, must maintain confidentiality by not disclosing to others any confidential, proprietary, or trade secret information belonging to the Company. -Participates in pre-survey meetings with Project Managers and contractor representatives; assigns and monitors surveyor's work. -Responsible and accountable for the safety of all co-workers and any others incumbent comes in contact with. -Reports any and all violations of applicable laws, regulations, or Company policies and procedures promptly and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so. -Maintains records and prepares reports appropriate for the needs of the project and for future retention. -Responsible and accountable for incumbent's own personal safety. -Assembles pertinent reference data before field surveys. -Lifting objects up to 50 lbs. as required. -Assembles field data, reduces field notes, and makes survey calculations. -Works with the Project Superintendent and jobsite work crews to ensure that all survey conducted for determination of construction stakeout is done correctly. -Makes topographical surveys and site surveys for the design and development of docks, buildings, roads, and bridges. -Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and Company policies and procedures and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so. -Carrying 50 lb. objects as required. -Oversees existing site surveys, as-built surveys, and control line surveys for accurate completion of projects.

What You Bring

-The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise. -Ability to make engineering sketches, maps, and drawings. -Strong knowledge of the nomenclature and symbols of drafting. -Strong knowledge of the use of mechanical drawing instruments. -Remaining calm during emergencies and responding appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise. -Prior hands-on work experience in heavy civil or marine construction is preferred but not required. -Possesses the qualifications and physical ability to drive regular passenger vehicles to visit work locations and job sites. -Adapting to extreme temperature changes. -The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. -Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications. -Adapting to outdoor conditions and prolonged exposure. -Ability to reduce and plot field notes to make computations. -Working knowledge of Project Construction, Principles of Surveying, Engineering & Project Standards, Surveying Software, State Law regarding Plats, Property Lines and Survey Monuments, and Safety & Environmental Compliance. -Ability to do transit and level work which may include application of total station instruments to survey projects. -Ability to travel out of town as needed. -Strong knowledge of surveying instruments and GPS equipment and their use and care. -Authorized and obligated to stop work on any task or series of tasks whenever an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or observed. -Strong knowledge of mathematics, survey computer programs, and survey computations applicable to the job. -A B.S. Degree in Surveying or related discipline and a minimum of 3 years' experience or equivalent work experience as a Surveyor is required. -Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another and normally involves physically getting onto and off of work barges, boats, vessels, or dock facilities of varying heights and access parameters. -Ability to carry out written and oral directions. -Standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting for long periods of time. -Working in confined spaces. -The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFDs), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
