Quality Manager

Description

• Promoting health, safety, and environmental awareness across the team, driving a zero-harm culture
• Leading daily reviews of Quality KPI’s & Product conformity, setting in place key actions for any deviations
• Leading the operation and development of the Quality Management System, ensuring certification, compliance, and reporting standards are met
• Operating a Quality Management System, ensuring certification of products, operational testing, monitoring and reporting as well as maintaining Quality compliance
• Managing chemistry/quality/environment projects to carry out improvements and standardization and coordinating certification procedures
• Overseeing sampling, lab testing, and analysis processes by technical standards
• Investigating quality issues and coordinating effective action plans
• Liaising with the technical sales force and NCTM in case of quality claims
• Managing quality, chemistry, and environmental projects that drive improvement and standardisation
• Fostering safety awareness amongst employees, striving to achieve a zero-harm culture, leading by example and by setting high standards towards creating a sustainable Health & Safety culture coupled with Environmental excellence
• Supporting the introduction of new equipment and procedures, ensuring safety and quality compliance
• Ensuring sampling, measuring and analysis procedures (including Tarmac quality technical standards) are in place, adequate and respected
• Complying with the Company environmental standards in the relevant fields of activity
• Providing prompt production of Autocontrol Quality Data as required by the sales function and customers
• Investigating product quality issues, putting in place corrective actions with a corresponding action plan
• Monitoring quality KPIs and product conformity, initiating corrective actions where required
• Providing line manager support including, recruitment, retention, development opportunities and appraisals for your team
• Ensuring the timely production and communication of Autocontrol Quality Data to support sales and customer needs
• Collaborating with technical and commercial teams to manage customer queries and claims
• Promoting quality of work and motivating personnel, developing skills to keep abreast of technical developments
• Ensuring laboratory staff are fully trained and competent within ISO and internal quality systems
• Ensuring that all laboratory personnel are fully trained and competent in the Quality management system and the ISO Quality Management system
• Leading and mentoring the laboratory team, supporting recruitment, development, and performance reviews
• Ensuring the quality of products and services are in line with objectives, quality contracts and standards, and any process improvement work is relevant and of good quality
• Evaluating the suitability of new plant together with safe procedures for their use that ensure conformity to legislation and Tarmac Management System

Requirements

• A Chemistry or Materials Science-related degree (or equivalent)
• A sound knowledge of standards and QA certification procedures
• Fully conversant with ISO9001 quality management system, BS EN197, Tech-Base and LQTS
• Familiarity with standards including ISO9001, BS EN197, and systems such as Tech-Base and LQTS
• Fully conversant with laboratory sample and recording systems in a cement/concrete or related-product laboratory
• Extensive knowledge of cement industry processes from raw mix design, clinker production (burning) to finished products grinding
• IOSH certification or formal leadership training would be an advantage
• Experience of managing change and implementing new processes and procedures
• Analytical thinking, able to analyse data and compile logical, structured reports
• Significant experience in a technical/optimisation/quality management role with experience of laboratory testing procedures
• Experience with laboratory procedures and data management
• Significant experience in a technical, optimisation, or quality management role, ideally within the cement or heavy materials industry
• In-depth knowledge of physico-chemical characteristics of raw materials, in process and finished
• Good time-management skills; with ability to meet strict deadlines
• In-depth working knowledge of cement products is essential
• Coaching and Influencing skills are paramount in this role
• Strong understanding of physico-chemical testing, QA systems, and certifications
• A track record of leading change and process improvements
• Analytical skills with the ability to produce clear, structured reports
• Strong coaching and influencing abilities
• Deep knowledge of cement processes, including raw mix design, clinker production, and finished product grinding
