Lead Mechanical Engineer

Description

As the Lead Mechanical Engineer you will provide leadership and creativity in the design, development, optimization, problem‑solving and operation of assigned assets and supporting processes, ensuring safety and operational performance. The role focuses on continuous improvement and reliability of plant assets, while driving cost‑saving initiatives and supporting sustainability, inclusion and career development.

• Design, develop, and optimize equipment and processes that meet safety standards and operational performance expectations.
• Lead multiple medium‑to‑large initiatives to improve asset reliability and plant performance, including breakthrough projects.
• Identify cost‑saving opportunities and manage expenses within the asset budget.
• Apply engineering principles, scientific analysis, LEAN, and project‑management techniques to solve complex technical issues.
• Mentor and transfer knowledge to team members, creating documentation and training materials.
• Support maintenance personnel in troubleshooting and resolving complex equipment problems.
• Document equipment issues and improvement opportunities; lead safety work teams.
• Partner with maintenance on reliability projects and develop strategic obsolescence replacement plans.
• Assist with trial planning, preparation, and on‑call/shift coverage for assets.
• Contribute to plant expense and capital planning, ensuring alignment with the 5‑year vision.
• Participate in early design, technology selection, equipment sizing, and location decisions; oversee installation and commissioning.
• Coordinate with utilities and facilities teams to manage operational change impacts.

• Bachelor’s (or advanced) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of industrial experience in high‑speed consumer product manufacturing or similar environment.
• Proven ability to work effectively in cross‑functional teams and meet deadlines.
• Willingness to travel up to 15 % of time.
• Experience with tissue‑making production equipment, materials, and processes.
• Strong written and presentation skills for leadership updates.
• Background in plant manufacturing, capital projects, maintenance, utilities, or asset support.
• Experience collaborating with external technical service providers.
• Familiarity with high‑speed equipment startups and Kimberly‑Clark engineering procedures.

The position is based at the Neenah – Cold Spring facility, offers a salary range of $87,260‑$107,780, target bonus eligibility, 401(k) and profit‑sharing plans, and relocation support for the selected candidate. Compensation is part of a total rewards package that includes comprehensive benefits.
