Under general supervision, the tool maker designs, builds and repairs a variety of tools, jigs, fixtures, welding, brazing, and assembly fixtures. The role includes guiding and training other tool makers, analyzing specifications, laying out metal stock, setting up and operating precise‑tolerance machine tools, and fitting and assembling parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and hand tools. The incumbent also modifies dies to conform to engineering changes, troubleshoots equipment and performs complex repairs.
The position requires a high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and 1‑3 years of related experience. Candidates should have moderate knowledge of tearing down units, troubleshooting problems, determining the extent of troubles, repairing damage mechanisms or replacing worn or defective parts, and reassembling. Additional knowledge in selecting appropriate materials for specific purposes and diagnosing issues with metalworking dies and other tooling is needed. Strong mathematical and analytical abilities, and the ability to read and interpret blueprints and diagrams, are required. The role also demands the physical ability to move at least 50 pounds.
This hourly non‑exempt role offers a starting pay range of $22.00–$26.25 per hour, with overtime eligibility for hours over 40 per week. Benefits, subject to eligibility, include tuition reimbursement, medical, dental, and vision insurance, prescription drug coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, short‑term disability, 8 weeks paid birthing leave, 2 weeks paid bonding leave, and life and long‑term disability insurance.
