Description

• Prepare sketches showing location of wiring and equipment or follow diagrams/blueprints to ensure concealed wiring is installed before walls, ceilings, and flooring are completed.
• Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble and install electrical conduit using tools such as hacksaw, pipe threader, rules, and conduit benders.
• Pull wiring through conduit, assisted by a helper.
• Splice wires by stripping insulation, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
• Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand tools.
• Install control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit‑breaker panels, fastening them with crews or bolts using hand or power tools.
• Connect power cables to equipment and install grounding leads.
• Test continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety using instruments such as ohmmeter, battery, buzzer, and oscilloscope.
• Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to identify hazards and determine need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
• Disassemble and repair defective electrical equipment or systems.
• Load, transport and unload material, tools, equipment and supplies.
• Maintain tools and equipment.
• Observe and comply with all safety and project rules.
• Follow instructions and established guidelines while working under immediate supervision.
• Rate information using personal judgment or measurable standards.
• Visualize detail in objects or drawings as three‑dimensional.

Requirements

Preferred minimum of 6 months documented field experience. Must have ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation. Plan, layout, install, and repair wiring, conduit, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment.

• Distinguish wire colors.
• Apply knowledge of procedures such as lockout/tagout (LOTO).
• Require high school diploma or equivalent and prior field experience.
• Possess knowledge of common concepts, practices, and procedures in the trade.
• Perform arithmetical operations rapidly and accurately.
