The HVAC Service Manager leads staff who install, repair, and maintain heating and air‑conditioning systems in commercial buildings. The manager works directly with technicians, dispatch personnel, and other managers to ensure customer satisfaction while meeting departmental goals. As a senior company representative, they communicate with customers, vendors, and suppliers to convey job status and requirements.
In this role the manager oversees all Operations Department personnel, sets priorities, conducts meetings, evaluates performance, and assigns work to achieve effective production. They schedule and support field technicians, evaluate workloads, ensure quality and safety standards, manage payroll, training, budgets, and vehicle maintenance, and coordinate larger installations and projects. Regular collaboration with dispatch and other department managers helps maintain profitability and efficient operations.
- Manage and develop field and office staff, including hiring, termination, priority setting, meetings, performance evaluation, and work assignments.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Schedule, direct, and provide technical support to field technicians to meet service demands and customer expectations.
- Evaluate technician workloads and schedule service work to maximize manpower utilization.
- Coordinate with dispatch to schedule technicians based on skill level, efficiency, and training needs.
- Assess technician work quality against standards, techniques, and safety requirements, recommending improvements.
- Review and approve weekly payroll for hourly technicians and non‑exempt office staff.
- Establish and maintain a regular training program on latest techniques and safety procedures.
- Ensure all jobs are performed safely, effectively, and profitably.
- Order and deliver equipment and materials promptly for scheduled jobs.
- Communicate with vendors regarding product warranties, recalls, and operational issues.
- Develop and monitor budgets, goals, and objectives to achieve departmental profitability.
- Perform daily service order audits and review customer billing to ensure timely cash flow.
- Meet regularly with dispatch to discuss job details, estimated completion times, labor hours, and material usage.
- Oversee service vehicle maintenance and usage according to company policy.
- Manage large installations, start‑ups, and commissioning projects, coordinating technicians and subcontractors and completing pre‑start inspections and turnover.
- Collaborate with other department managers to meet company goals and objectives.
- Perform additional tasks as required to maintain efficient department operations.
- Maintain a clean, neat, professional appearance and instill pride of workmanship.

The position requires strong customer service, sales, and leadership abilities, at least five years of HVAC management experience, and relevant post‑secondary education.
