The Utility Locator role is full‑time and requires at least two years of locating experience. Responsibilities include locating underground utilities using 811 tickets, maps, GIS data, and electronic equipment, marking them with flags or paint, and documenting each locate with reports, photos, and a mobile app. The position also involves on‑call rotation and extensive travel, up to 75% of the time.
Key requirements are knowledge of locate best practices and 811 law, ability to read utility maps and as‑built drawings, and maintenance of clean, tobacco‑free equipment and vehicles. Candidates must complete paperwork accurately, communicate effectively with coworkers and the public, and demonstrate strong attention to detail, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills. A valid driver’s license, ability to obtain a DOT physical, and a clean drug screen are mandatory, along with flexibility for varying schedules and overtime.
