The Industrial Hygienist/Environmental Consultant is responsible for a range of duties including indoor air testing, hazardous building materials inspection and sampling, abatement design specifications, and oversight of hazardous material abatement.
This position requires travel throughout the State of Maine and New Hampshire, with occasional overnight stays. This position involves working with and sampling potentially hazardous materials. Qualified candidates must be able to pass a physical and wear personal protective equipment, including a tight-fitting respirator, and work is done in various weather conditions. SME takes safety very seriously and expects all employees to comply with company safety standards and regulatory requirements. Safety training and appropriate environmental training and certifications are a plus but will be provided as necessary.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills to effectively interact with contractors, business clients, and homeowners. The candidate must also have a high level of organizational skills that are well suited to accurate management and documentation of large quantities of environmental samples and observations. A strong understanding of building systems and construction styles is helpful in understanding what building materials may be hazardous.
