The position supervises daily activities within Field Operations for Washington Gas (WG) and requires availability for 24‑hour, 7‑day emergency response and potential shift work, including evenings and weekends. Assigned shifts may range from 4‑10‑hour evenings (1 pm‑11 pm) to day shifts, with the number of positions and stations to be determined.
The incumbent will oversee WG employees and contractors in infrastructure maintenance, manage hiring, training, performance, and staff development, and ensure field operations meet corporate, regulatory, and project objectives while staying within budget. Additional duties include safe operation and maintenance of gas mains, compliance with codes, coordination of leak repairs and emergency response, and establishing facility maintenance guidelines.
- Supervise the daily work of assigned Washington Gas employees and contractors in infrastructure maintenance.
- Responsible for hiring, evaluating, training, performance management, compensating, motivating, coaching, and developing staff.
- Ensure field operations meet or exceed corporate, business unit, regulatory, and project objectives using sound policies.
- Ensure projects are completed within budgetary limitations.
- Oversee safe operation, maintenance, and tie‑in of gas mains and emergency response for an assigned region.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local codes.
- Lead daily work activities and distribution of planned leak repair and other pipeline tasks among crews.
- Coordinate immediate/emergency response activities.
- Coordinate emergency response field operations to ensure customer, public, and employee safety.
- Establish guidelines and practices to maintain company facilities in accordance with regulations.
- Provide on‑call responsibilities when required.

Candidates must hold a High School Diploma/GED (Bachelor’s preferred), have at least five years of relevant experience in natural gas, HVAC, construction or related fields, a valid driver’s license, and pass gas odor recognition testing. Required competencies include leadership, knowledge of pipeline construction and emergency procedures, mechanical aptitude, planning and scheduling, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and strong verbal and written communication.

- 5+ years of related work experience in natural gas, appliance service, HVAC, construction, or related fields.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Must pass gas odor recognition testing.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to reconcile conflicting goals and lead projects to completion.
- Working knowledge of pipeline construction, replacement, operations, maintenance, and emergency response procedures.
- Extensive knowledge of appliance service, gas distribution, heating, air conditioning, pipe work, electrical wiring, venting, and gas equipment.
- Working knowledge of appliance diagnostic repair and gas distribution.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
- Demonstrated planning and scheduling skills.
- Proven ability to use Microsoft Office to share, retrieve, research, and present business information.
- Ability to present ideas logically and concisely both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with partners, supervisors, subordinates, and peers.
- Ability to logically analyze and solve narrowly defined business problems.
