The Pipefitter reads and interprets blueprints, ISO field installations, material takeoffs, field sketches, and specifications to guide work. They fabricate and install a range of pipe types—including screw, socket weld, stainless tubing, carbon steel weld, and stainless steel weld—while mitering, beveling, and preparing them for welding. Installation tasks include mounting piping in racks, attaching valves, hangers, supports, underground pipe, and steam/heat tracing, as well as correctly bolting pipe and valve flanges. The Pipefitter also assists other craft workers as needed.
The Pipefitter must possess knowledge of test piping systems, oxygen and acetylene cutting, basic rigging, and operation of pneumatic and electric tools. They must understand safety hazards and safely use related equipment. The role may be performed in plant operations or construction job sites.
The position requires physical ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lb (occasionally 100 lb), perform repetitive hand/arm motions, and maintain balance on various structures and uneven terrain, including confined spaces and adverse weather. The candidate must operate hand and power tools, communicate clearly with supervisors, read and write instructions, perform calculations, make decisions, and stay detail‑oriented under distracting conditions.
