Participate in conferences with project stakeholders and collaborates with other engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure system coordination and integration with specific project requirements
Provide independent, timely and professional fire protection engineering support, services and consultation for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of facilities for the Navy, Marine Corps, and other Supported Commands, including minor works projects, specific projects, special projects, military construction (MILCON), demolition, maintenance, space utilization and facilities development

Knowledge and experience with Autodesk software, Microsoft Office products, fire protection engineering design and analysis software and other applicable DoD computer systems and software used by the Command
Ability to produce results of analysis in writing and consolidate findings of others and evaluate recommendations and facts
Registration as Professional Engineer (PE) in the discipline of Fire Protection Engineering is required
Knowledge of related architectural and engineering fields and their associated impacts as related to fire protection engineering design. Ability to make oral presentations of proposed designs and results of studies
Education: Completion of a course of studies accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineers and Technology (ABET) for a fire protection engineering program from a college or university for a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering or fire protection engineering, supplemented by a considerable amount of hands-on facilities design experience, is required. If degree is in mechanical engineering, then a PE registration in the discipline of Fire Protection Engineering is required
Ability to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms
Capable of lifting up to 10 lbs
Knowledge of and full compliance with Safety Policy and Guidance, and use of personal protective equipment
Knowledge of local, state, federal, and foreign country laws, codes, and other statutory requirements affecting fire protection engineering design throughout the NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic AOR
Experience: A minimum of 10 years of professional fire protection engineering code compliant facilities design experience for new construction, including renovation design experience, is required

Knowledge of DoD and Navy guide specifications, criteria and policy, industry codes and standards, and standard practices as related to fire protection engineering design, including the Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes and standards, International Building Code (IBC), International Mechanical Code (IMC),International Residential Code (IRC), FM Global Loss Prevention Data Sheets, Society of Fire Protection Engineer's Handbook, and various other industry standards
Ability to see details of objects that are less than a few feet away
Ability to stand/walk/climb/kneel/crouch and remain in a stationary position/sit at least 60% of the time
Ability to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc
Knowledge of budgeting, planning and project management techniques, including the ability to coordinate the work of others and lead teams
Ability to understand the speech of another person, speak clearly so listeners can understand, and talk or hear both in person and by telephone
