Description

The Evidence Technician will support the Forensics Department by managing the receipt, handling, storage, and disposition of evidence and property in line with established policies. Responsibilities include maintaining chain‑of‑custody documentation, photographing evidence, and coordinating transportation to testing laboratories while keeping the work environment clean, secure, and efficient.

• Oversee evidence receipt, barcoding, storage, return, destruction, and inventory per policy
• Ensure chain‑of‑custody documentation for all evidence and property transactions
• Photograph evidence during intake and maintain accurate visual records
• Coordinate transportation of evidence to and from testing laboratories
• Maintain clean, organized, and operational evidence processing equipment and vehicles
• Provide departmental support during inspections, audits, and investigations
• Train staff on evidence handling best practices and department protocols
• Organize evidence destruction events and keep associated records
• Conduct monthly vehicle maintenance inspections and ensure safety compliance
• Serve on‑call for after‑hours response as needed
• Establish and maintain systems for tracking evidence activities and invoice approvals
• Uphold safety practices and follow regulatory best practices
• Obtain and maintain CMV certification within 6 months of hire
• Obtain and maintain Forklift Operator certification within 6 months of hire

Requirements

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong organizational and prioritization skills, a high level of integrity, and the ability to handle confidential information responsibly. The role also requires on‑call availability for after‑hours response, adherence to safety regulations, and effective communication with staff during inspections, audits, and investigations.

• Minimum high school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of relevant warehouse, property, or inventory experience
• Knowledge of warehouse equipment, procedures, and documentation standards
• Able to multitask in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining accuracy and professionalism
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and quick to learn new software systems
• Capable of lifting and transferring up to 50 lb; occasional travel (5%‑30%) required
• Valid Georgia driver’s license required; CDL is a plus
