Payroll Specialist

Description

• Employee Support Respond to employee inquiries and concerns regarding paychecks, deductions, and time off accruals in a professional and timely manner.
• Process Improvement Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes for greater efficiency and accuracy
• Compliance & Reporting Ensure correct processing of employee taxes, benefits, and wage garnishments. Prepare and submit required payroll reports for management and external agencies as needed.
• Calculate Bonuses and commissions when applicable.
• Payroll Processing Process accurate and timely weekly payroll for a workforce that includes both hourly in multiple states (New York and New Jersey).
• Collaboration Work closely with the Human Resources and Benefits departments to ensure seamless integration of new hires, terminations, and status changes.
• Data Management Collect, maintain, and input all employee information, including working hours, tax elections (W-4s), direct deposit details, pay rates, and benefits deductions into the payroll system (experience with systems like ADP).

Requirements

• Attention to Detail Exceptional accuracy in data entry and commitment to detail to ensure error-free payroll execution.
• Experience 1-2+ years of experience in payroll processing, including experience with garnishments and payroll taxes.
• Problem-Solving Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve payroll discrepancies and issues efficiently.
• Technical Skills Proficient in payroll software (ADP Workforce Now) and integrated accounting systems. Strong data entry skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
• Work Environment Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks and deadlines, occasionally under pressure.
• Knowledge Solid understanding of federal, state (NY and NJ), and local regulations and compliance requirements related to payroll.
• Communication Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
