  • Proficient with low pressure boilers.

  • Diagnose problems using electrical schematics.

  • Demonstrate advanced troubleshooting skills on 100 ton and less unitary DX equipment.
  • Diagnose issues with variable air volume equipment (VAV’s/PIU’s)
  • All skills listed in the Class 3 and Class 4 sections above plus understanding of water-cooled chillers, chilled water systems, large chiller rebuilds, rigging, large boilers, pumps, and assist with technical support to other technicians.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Diagnosing refrigerant system issues.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Basic understanding of DDC control systems.
  • Basic understanding variable frequency drives.
  • Ability to diagnose water flow issues.
  • Five years plus of commercial/industrial HVAC experience including exposure to control, compound and reciprocating systems as well as refrigerants. Experience level is based on technician classifications described above.
  • All skills listed in the Class 3 category above plus the ability to perform trouble shooting and repairs on all types of air-cooled chillers, pumps, and low-pressure boilers.
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess superior system knowledge and advanced troubleshooting skills.
  • Diagnose issues on large boilers with power burners.
  • Advanced diagnosis of air distribution systems (VAV/PIU).
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Advanced troubleshooting on all air-cooled equipment, both unitary and chilled water.
  • Capable of maintaining and repairing cooling towers.
  • Understanding of 5 through 100-ton unitary DX equipment, chilled water air handlers, computer room units (CRAC), Pneumatic and DDC controls.
  • Trade/Technical School certification or degree preferred.
  • Basic understanding of water-cooled chillers.
  • Proficient with variable frequency drives and starters.
