  • Collaborates with architects, engineers, and project managers to integrate building science principles into the design process for various types of construction projects, such as residential, commercial, and institutional buildings.
  • Oversees daily operations of the practice area and manages employees / contractors within that office.
  • Assists district managers in conducting interviews and assessment of job candidates.
  • Conducts annual written performance reviews on all direct reports.
  • Assists in marketing activities to promote the practice area and build relationships with current and future clients.
  • Provides technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring within professional or technical discipline.
  • Provides guidance and oversight for large, complex, or long-term assignments.
  • Analyzes and interprets building condition assessments to identify areas of concern and implement corrective measures.
  • Performs on-site evaluations and assessments of existing buildings to identify potential concerns.
  • Stays up-to-date with the latest advancements in building science, green building technologies, and code standards.
  • Performs peer reviews of verbal and written Reports of Findings and drawing / specification packages.
  • Measuring of building dimensions and quantifying on site and from drawings.
  • Coordinates with and supports practice area Directors as needed.
  • Resolves issues that are presented by our clients in a timely and satisfactory manner.
  • Reviews and ensures that deliverables, including reports and proposals, prepared by staff members meet Rimkus standards of accuracy / professionalism.
  • Works with district managers to develop, support, and participate in individualized training programs for new hires and other technical staff in the building sciences discipline.
  • Leads and oversees the design, analysis, and implementation of building sciences projects.
  • Reviews all draft invoices before submission as final invoices.

  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, specifically in accuracy of calculations and completeness of data collection and notation.
  • Interpretation and hand drawing of in-situ construction details.
  • Understanding of building construction, including methods, materials, and systems is required.
  • A Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation may be required depending on local district requirements; will be considered an asset in all jurisdictions.
  • Self-motivating and able to multi-task.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, with a focus on Building Science.
  • Travel – This position requires up to 30% local area travel. Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to act with business integrity and professionalism.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge in areas related to building science such as thermodynamics, heat transfer, and psychometrics.
  • Physical Demands – Work is performed both in an office setting and at outside locations (i.e. industrial, construction and/or residential sites). The employee is frequently required to stand, walk on sloped and flat roofs, sit, climb ladders, bend, climb inside attics, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to client sites or job sites. Working at heights, including accessing buildings by ladders, swing stages, and mechanical lifts will be necessary. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary. The employee must be sharp, focused, and alert when conducting inspections, speaking, and interacting with clients, preparing drawings and written reports.

  • Minimum of 10+ years of related experience in a consulting engineering environment managing building science or structural restoration projects.
  • Past supervisory / management experience is desired.
