  • Resolve design/field issues.
  • Facilitate and chair pre-construction and construction progress meetings.
  • Oversee projects to ensure that the work is executed on time and on budget and in accordance with the client's requirements and within company policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with clients, contractors and staff on various construction projects.
  • Coordinate and monitor materials testing.
  • Receive administrative supervision with assignments given only in terms of broad general objectives and limits. Apply expert-level technical knowledge and experience to assignments. Maintain quality control and quality assurance of work produced by staff.
  • Provide work assignments and review performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.
  • Proactively monitor traffic control and protection.
  • Provide guidance, leadership and training to inspection team.
  • Assist with the marketing of the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships.
  • Read and interpret complex contract documents.
  • Review monthly contractor pay estimates and recommend approval.
  • Manage activities such as layout, inspection, documentation, and pay estimates.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders.

  • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
  • Self-reliance and ability to operate independently with limited direction.

  • Fifteen or more (15+) years' professional engineering experience.
  • Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Strong sense of urgency in responding to constituents.
  • Excellent organizational and change management skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Highly motivated and problem-solving attitude.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in IL.
  • Strong marketing/business development skills and mindset.
  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple time-sensitive tasks.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Applicable DOT certification required.
  • Demonstrated success as a Resident Engineer on major transportation projects.
  • Ability to lead teams in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and external partners.
  • High degree of discretion and ability to manage highly confidential information.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
