Senior Structures Representative

Description

• Ensure compliance with the construction contract requirements and shop drawing prepared by contractor
• Perform constructability reviews
• Verify field dimension including vertical and horizontal field control for structures
• Prepare reports, opinions, and recommendations for review by team leaders prior to submission to clients concerning the structures
• Assist in the preparation of contract change orders, contract estimates, progress pay estimates, and other documents or reports required for the Project. Coordinate the sampling and testing of construction materials to monitor compliance with contract specifications.
• Keep abreast of new methods and developments
• Oversee staff performing daily field inspections
• Inspects construction progress which may include ensuring procedures and materials comply with specifications; observes work in progress to assure conformance with requirements and acceptable workmanship
• Ensure conformance with standards, established engineering practices, applicable codes and technical adequacy of design and construction
• Preparation of final as-builts
• Assist Resident Engineer with response to Request for Information from Contractor
• Prepare Daily diaries and maintains inspection records
• Performing calculation and acceptance of temporary structures as used in construction of bridges and structures including falsework, temporary shoring, working platforms, temporary supports.
• Verify compliance with applicable regulations controlling work including CAL/OSHA and SWPPP

Requirements

• Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Ability to work independently. Ability to perform duties in the construction field office and effectively make decisions concerning construction work in progress and solving field problems.
• Experience administering Caltrans Structures Construction projects and familiarity with their standards and practices.
• 20+ years of experience in construction management for heavy civil engineering projects, with a focus on structural elements.
• Caltrans experience, highly desired.
• Basic computer skills required (Microsoft Word, Excel).
• Ability to review submittals including shop drawings, product data, samples, test samples, QA plans submitted by the contractor
• In-depth understanding of structural design and construction, including bridges, retaining walls, culverts, and related infrastructure.
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of California (required).
• Proficient in contract administration and documentation, with excellent attention to detail.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Ability to work independently. Ability to perform duties in the construction field office and effectively make decisions concerning construction work in progress and solving field problem
