As Commercial Manager, you will oversee all commercial activities across the business, managing a small but capable team of 3–4 Quantity Surveyors. You will report directly to the Managing Director and play a pivotal role in maintaining margin control, contract compliance, risk mitigation, and commercial reporting across the company’s portfolio of work.

  • Oversee cost planning, tendering, contract negotiation, valuations, variations, and final accounts.
  • Maintain and improve internal reporting systems to give senior leadership real-time visibility on margin, cost risks, and cash flow.
  • Assist in resource planning, subcontractor procurement, and commercial risk assessment.
  • Monitor project commercial performance from tender stage to project close-out.
  • Represent them in client and subcontractor commercial discussions.
  • Lead the Commercial Department and mentor a team of QS staff (3–4 individuals).
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Site Teams to ensure alignment between commercial and delivery teams.
  • Help shape future growth of the department – including hiring, training, and process development.

Notes - Ideally Managing QS or Commercial Manager level

  • Excellent commercial awareness, contract law knowledge, and negotiation skills.
  • 10+ years’ experience in a commercial role with a main contractor or developer.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and cost management systems.
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication abilities.
  • Experience managing teams and commercial functions on multiple simultaneous projects.
