Assistant Bridges Engineer

Description

As a Structural Engineer you will be involved in every stage of a project, from inception through to completion, working within a locally based technical team and taking responsibility for your deliverables. You will support junior staff, contribute to bid preparation, and champion health‑and‑safety and sustainability practices while managing multi‑discipline infrastructure projects.

• Produce technically sound engineering solutions.
• Own and support the management and technical delivery of projects from start to finish.
• Prepare designs, calculations, drawings and documentation that meet quality, cost and programme criteria.
• Support and guide junior staff on similar tasks.
• Contribute to the professional development of junior staff and pursue your own development.
• Liaise with clients and suppliers, attend progress meetings and respond to queries.
• Work within a locally based technical team and deliver assigned activities within scheme projects.
• Contribute to bid preparation and work‑winning activities.
• Drive effective health and safety practices within the team.
• Apply sustainability practices in engineering.
• Manage multi‑discipline infrastructure projects.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders.
• Produce solutions that comply with DMRB, Eurocodes, CIRIA and other relevant standards.
• Take ownership of deliverable preparation and perform quality checks.
• Manage and communicate hazards and risks, ensuring appropriate mitigation.
• Apply interface management to align deliverables across disciplines.

Requirements

• Experience in structural engineering, typically from a graduate engineer role.
• Proficient with analysis software such as LUSAS and Autodesk Structural Bridge Design.
• Understand CDM regulations and risk assessment for design and construction.
• Progress towards ICE or IStructE Chartered status (or equivalent professional licence).
• Hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant subject or equivalent learning.
