Description

The Maintenance Operator is responsible for maintenance of all emulsion and asphalt terminal equipment. The ideal candidate will operate and understand all plant equipment, be able to enter confined spaces, and operate pressure washer and vacuum equipment. This position involves cleaning tanks, boilers, trailers, and related equipment at various locations.

Essential job functions include loading and unloading emulsified asphalt and binder trucks, tack pots, and spreader trucks; performing routine maintenance and preventive measures on plant equipment; unloading chemicals, supply trucks, and railcars; operating boilers, heaters, oxidizers, and other plant equipment; draining and washing tanks to remove residue; scraping and scrubbing walls; removing debris and sludge; and sampling and testing asphalt products to meet AASHTO specifications.

• Load and unload emulsified asphalt, binder, tack pot, and spreader trucks.
• Perform routine maintenance and preventive measures on all plant equipment.
• Unload chemicals, supply trucks, and railcars.
• Operate boilers, heaters, oxidizers, and other plant equipment.
• Drain tanks, connect hoses, and wash walls, roofs, and bottoms to flush residue.
• Scrape and scrub tank walls to remove scale.
• Sweep debris and shovel sludge into containers.
• Remove liquids from tank bottoms using squeegees or pump suction hoses.
• Manufacture products using mill or soap batch process.
• Sample and test asphalt and emulsified products to meet AASHTO specifications.
• Maintain basic written records and daily tank level readings.
• Participate in safety meetings and follow environmental, health, and safety policies.
• Perform basic housekeeping (clean litter, spills, bathrooms, offices).
• Work overtime as required and travel to other locations.
• Report to work daily and on time.
• Use hand and power tools.

Requirements

Additional duties involve basic recordkeeping, daily tank level readings, participation in safety meetings, adherence to environmental, health, and safety policies, basic housekeeping, overtime as required, punctual attendance, and travel to other locations.

The role requires fluency in English, basic math skills, knowledge of hand and power tools, ability to acquire OSHA 10‑hour training, basic computer proficiency, understanding of boiler or hot‑oil heater operations, and the ability to self‑start and work in adverse conditions.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, ability to obtain a forklift license, a current state driver’s license and reliable vehicle, and the ability to acquire required certifications.
