Providing engineering, procurement, and construction services to the energy and industrial sectors.
The Senior Protection & Control Engineer role at Sargent & Lundy allows you to apply expert knowledge of protective relaying and control systems for distribution and high‑voltage substations. You will primarily develop protection and control schematics and wiring drawings for a wide range of substation modifications and upgrades that meet client requirements.
Your duties include creating protective relaying philosophies, selecting relays, control and communications equipment, and configuring SCADA and telecommunication concepts and I/O assignments. You will also investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve diverse substation protection and control issues, prepare single‑line, A.C., and D.C. schematic diagrams, and conduct independent reviews of peer work. Additionally, you will mentor less‑experienced engineers and may travel to client, vendor, or project sites for design reviews and field verification.
The position requires a BSEE with a power‑systems or controls emphasis from an ABET‑accredited program and at least ten years of experience focused on protection, control, and telecommunications for high‑voltage substations, including design, installation, and coordination. Essential skills include proficiency with design tools, familiarity with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI standards, experience with vendor protective relay equipment, MS Office, and strong written and verbal communication. Preferred qualifications include experience with in‑line and bus protection, RTU/SCADA systems, AutoCAD or MicroStation, construction and commissioning, and a professional engineering license.
This role offers a hybrid work arrangement (three days in‑office, two days remote), a generous relocation package, and a compensation range of $142,710–$215,440 plus discretionary bonuses. Sargent & Lundy provides award‑winning benefits such as comprehensive health plans, 401(k), paid time off, flexible work options, and various employee assistance programs. The company is an equal‑opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.
