The Principal Applications Engineer will act as the primary technical liaison between Trystar and its customers, supporting Sales, Marketing, and Design Engineering teams. In this customer‑facing role, the engineer will guide the design‑in process, provide post‑sale support, and create technical content such as white papers, design notes, application notes, and blog posts to strengthen the brand.
In this role you will study customer needs, architect power system solutions, advise on codes, evaluate protection coordination, author technical content, represent Trystar at trade shows, and contribute to market‑driven product roadmaps.
- Safety – ensure everyone leaves Trystar facilities in the same or better condition than when they arrived.
- Customer focus – maintain relentless focus on customers and their success.
- Study customer needs and problem statements, collaborating with Sales, Marketing, and stakeholders to provide maximum value.
- Architect power system solutions and provide technical review and design guidance, including electrical designs, panel layouts, conceptual sketches, and single‑line diagrams.
- Identify key electrical components and subsystems, such as Trystar components, PLCs, and contactors.
- Advise on applicable electrical codes and their impact on solutions.
- Evaluate heat dissipation and short‑circuit current/electrical protection coordination.
- Provide general help to customers requiring technical assistance with our products.
- Author white papers, design notes, application notes, and blog posts.
- Attend trade shows to support our booth, meet prospects and customers, and present technical topics.
- Stay current on industry trends, product applications, market activities, and competitive trends, contributing to strategic roadmaps with Sales, Marketing, and R&D.
- Serve on committees supporting product certifications and standards.
- Provide market and customer feedback for product improvements and new product development.
- Develop market and competitive expertise and participate in new product definition and planning.
- Engage in and lead continuous improvement initiatives throughout a customer’s journey.

The position requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, at least 10 years of experience in power distribution or the electrical sector, and three years in an applications engineering role, along with deep knowledge of power systems, electronics, and industry standards.
Preferred candidates hold a Professional Engineer license, have experience with renewable energy and distributed energy resources, and demonstrate leadership in cross‑functional teams, project management, and strategic product development.

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in the power distribution/generation industry or electrical sector.
- 3+ years of experience in an Applications Engineering role.
- Deep understanding of power distribution systems including low and medium voltage applications.
- Firsthand experience with high‑power distribution equipment and system design.
- Strong knowledge of power electronics, protection systems, and grid integration.
- Strong customer‑facing skills with pre‑sales and post‑sales technical support experience.
- Ability to lead technical discussions and present solutions to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as IEEE, IEC, NEC, and UL.
- Travel requirement up to 50% of the time.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is a plus.
- Experience with renewable energy systems and distributed energy resources (DERs).
- Proven ability to architect and implement complex power distribution solutions.
- Experience developing application notes, reference designs, and technical documentation.
- Demonstrated leadership in cross‑functional teams including product management, R&D, and field engineering.
- Experience managing multiple projects and priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to influence strategic plans and product roadmaps based on customer feedback and market trends.
- Ability to quickly establish rapport and develop win/win, value‑based solutions.
