Lead mechanics in complex vehicle/heavy equipment maintenance and repairs.
-Use welding equipment, drill presses, grinders and a large assortment of other power and hand tools and measurement instruments required for journey level fabrication work. -Assures proper completion of job assignments with minimum expense and maximum productivity. -Work in all weather conditions, use cleaning and lubricating chemicals which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants, drive motorized vehicles, heavy equipment and work around moving traffic and often works with constant interruptions. -Inspect, diagnose, and locate mechanical difficulties on automobiles, trucks, and a variety of diesel and gasoline powered vehicles and construction equipment. -Overhaul, repair, and adjust engines, electrical systems, transmissions, differentials, clutches, and heavy construction equipment hydraulic systems. -Collaborates closely with supervisors of upcoming jobs for equipment needs. -Monitor and manage CARB’s emissions Data Base for On and Offroad equipment. -Fabricate and assemble parts for automotive and heavy equipment. -Occasionally lift 100 pounds with assistance; frequently lift, carry and manipulate up to 50 pounds. -Certifies records of work in progress and completed, including time reports, material requisitions, maintenance records and equipment counts when required. -Monitor and manage inventory of shop stock, assisting in the purchasing of Equipment, maintenance parts and materials. -Lead, train, and assist journey level and semi-skilled mechanics; assign work to mechanics -Performs quality control inspections to ensure all repairs meet or exceed regulatory requirements and internal safety and reliability standards.
-Ability to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment. -Ability to operate computer systems and learn new software/applications -Must be a member or become a member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 12 -Near and far vision when inspecting work. -Five (5) years of related experience, three (3) of which must be in supervising direct reports -Knowledge of CHP BIT/DOT Inspection program, CARBS emissions for On and Offroad equipment -Must have a full set of journey level hand tools to accomplish assigned work -Commercial Driver’s License -Prolonged sitting, standing, walking on unlevel and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties.
